HYDERABAD: The MLAs and MLCs Forum for Integrated State has urged Chief Minister K. Rosaiah to take steps to shift agitators who are on indefinite fast to the State Capital for providing them better treatment at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) and other super specialty hospitals. In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, Government Whip S. Sailajanath and others expressed concern that several people had been continuing their indefinite hunger strike in support of unified State for almost a week and their health condition was deteriorating fast. There was, however, absence of super specialty treatment and effective medicare in the areas where the agitation was underway. Though the hospitals like NIMS were equipped with necessary facilities to treat the agitators, the government had “imposed undeclared restrictions” and was not allowing them to enter the city, Dr. Sailajanath told reporters. The government should take steps to see that the agitators, cutting across political lines, be shifted to the City for treatment and thereby ensure that they were not denied an opportunity for proper healthcare which was a fundamental right. Meanwhile, Government Whip in the Legislative Council Y. Sivarami Reddy demanded that the Telugu Desam clarify its stand on separate Telangana. Refuting the charges levelled by TDP legislator P. Keshav on the Congress for the ongoing stalemate, Mr. Sivarami Reddy recalled that TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu had extended his party’s support to the resolution on Telangana. “Mr. Naidu went ahead with blackmailing the government in claiming that he would introduce the resolution in the Assembly if the Congress was not prepared,” he said adding the TDP had no moral right to criticise the Congress on this count.
