Noida to have design centre, energy cell Company spends 40 m euro on revamping Sylvania
NEW DELHI: Havells India, a leading player in the lighting and fixture, electrical and power equipment sectors on Monday announced the global launch of light emitting diodes (LED) lightings. Announcing this at a press conference here, Havells India Joint Managing Director Anil Gupta said Havells Sylvenia (Global Operations) has set a target of 50 million euro turnover from the LED segment in the next two years while Havells India would target revenues of Rs. 100 crore by 2012 from the domestic market. The company has set up a lighting R&D centre at its existing plant at Neemrana, Rajasthan, for this purpose. The LED product range of the company called Endura would include spotlights, downlights, commercial lights and street lights. Mr. Gupta said the LED thrust was an endeavour towards expanding the company’s range of energy savings products both in India and globally. While the LED lighting segment was at a nascent stage in India, the company saw itself leading the growth of this highly potential segment of the lighting industry. “The Government’s focus on the complete electrification of the households by 2012 would be a high trigger for the lighting industry in India,” he added. He said LED lightings consumed 80 per cent less energy than traditional sources and was four times more energy-efficient than regular incandescent lamps. The longer lifetime and environment friendliness makes LED a better choice over the traditional lamps. LEDs are for use in applications that are subject to frequent on-off cycling. He said Havells intended to have 80 per cent of its turnover from energy saving products by 2012. In its drive towards developing energy-efficient products, the company has put a lighting design centre and energy management cell at Noida. The centre would advise as to how a unit could reduce its energy bill without cutting down on the light required. “We are spending 40 million euro on restructuring Sylvania. We will be able to reduce fixed cost by the same amount. The investments in Sylvania, which began in January, will continue till June 2010,” he added. It may be recalled that in 2007, the company acquired the lighting business of a Frankfurt-based company ‘Sylvania’.
