HYDERABAD: The first ordinary meeting of the newly elected council of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Council will be held on January 18 in the old council hall. This was decided at a meeting between Mayor B. Kartika Chandra Reddy, Commissioner M.T. Krishna Babu and other senior officials here on Monday. A special workshop is also to be held on December 23 for the corporators to discuss the modalities of election of ward chairpersons of ward committees. Earlier, there was a chairperson for 10 wards each and now there will be 15 ward committees and as many chairpersons, one for every 15 wards. All these chairpersons constitute members of the Standing Committee to be presided over by the Mayor. The workshop will also discuss the constitution of area committees as mandated in the revamped Act. Listed NGO representatives are to be incorporated into such panels to discuss area wise issues. The Mayor assured that top priority will be given for development of greenery and an action plan for an all-round development of greenery in central media and traffic islands will be prepared. More colony parks are to be taken up. Director of Urban Forestry G. Krishna Murthy said 370 colony parks, 13 major parks and seven theme parks besides central media and traffic islands are being maintained.
