NEW DELHI: Anirban Lahiri was presented the ‘Rolex player-of-the-year’ award at the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) awards function here on Sunday. Anirban had topped the list in the Aircel-PGTI Order of Merit with Rs. 36,57,853, as he pipped a clutch of top performers like Mukesh Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Shamim Khan and Gaganjeet Bhullar. He received a custom-engraved Rolex watch from the Managing Director of Rolex India, Yogesh Shah. The Bangalore-based Lahiri won two titles and had seven other top-10 finishes out of 11 starts in the season. The ‘first-time winners’ awards went to Gaganjeet Bhullar, Anirban Lahiri, Himmat Singh Rai, Amandeep Johl, Gurki Shergill, Vishal Singh and Gaurav Pratap Singh apart from Australia’s Kunal Bhasin. The ‘Emerging player-of-the-year’ award was bagged by Anthony Choat from Adelaide, Australia. He accumulated the highest earnings Rs. 5,75,553 among all the professionals who had made their debut as full card holders on the Aircel-PGTI in the current season. He won a cheque for Rs 5 lakh for his outstanding rookie season which included two top-10 finishes. In a fitting recognition, the Rolex brand ambassador and the torch-bearer of Indian professional golf, Jeev Milkha Singh, was given honorary life membership of PGTI by Gautam Thapar, the president of PGTI.
