Tributes paid to Ramanujan

Maths department of Mrs. A.V.N. College pays tributes to the genius on his 123rd birth anniversary


VISAKHAPATNAM: Glowing tributes were paid here on Tuesday to renowned mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan on the occasion of his 123rd birth anniversary.

At a meeting organised by the Mathematics and Statistics Department of Mrs. A.V.N. College, head of mathematics V. Peraraju described Ramanujan as a mathematical genius who pursued his interest in the subject fighting against all odds and advised students to emulate him. College principal M. Sanyasi urged the students to pursue basic sciences and mathematics with zeal and enthusiasm and to follow the footsteps of the great scholar and come out with bright colours. K.L.N. Swamy, a professor, said students should draw inspiration from Ramanujan and continue their interest in mathematics seriously as it was the queen of sciences.

K.P.R. Sastry, a professor, said students need to be equipped with good mathematical skills as strong mathematical background was required to excel in any subject. Later, on behalf of the Mathematics and Statistics Department, both Prof. Swamy and Prof. Sastry, specialists in mathematics, were felicitated. D. Sravan Kumar, head of Physics and Computer Science department, Dr. V.S. Krishna College, spoke on celestial dynamics.

Students who displayed proficiency in mathematics and statistics in the university examinations were given prizes at the meeting.
