CUTTACK: Judicial activities across the State, including at State High Court here, were paralysed on Tuesday as lawyers observed one-day “token” strike in protest against the arrest and alleged custodial torture of a Cuttack-based senior advocate. The State crime branch police had arrested Cuttack criminal court bar member Tankadhar Mishra on December 15 for his alleged involvement in a fraud bank loan. The lawyer engaged by the Bank of Baroda had given his opinion about the legal viability of the documents submitted by the lender which were later found to be fake. AdjournedMeanwhile, the Orissa High Court which was hearing a batch of writ petitions on the issue adjourned the matter to be heard on Wednesday. According to reports reaching here, court activities in Cuutack, Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Sambalpur, Rourkela and at many other places were affected. Crime Branch IG Arun Ray refused to comment over the issue simply saying that the matter was sub judice.
