‘Quality education for all the way forward’
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal on Tuesday said the country can be taken forward only if the National Mission incorporates quality education for all.
Delivering the inaugural address at a conference on “Emerging Paradigms in Education” at Kulachi Hansraj Model School in Ashok Vihar here, Mr. Sibal said at present only 220 million students are going to school.
Paradigm shift
“Of which only 26 million reach college. This gap needs to be filled urgently. By 2020 the approximate number of college-going students should increase to 70 million but 150 million students will still not be able to attend college. Therefore the paradigm shift towards vocational courses becomes mandatory and two-year vocational courses should be introduced at the Class X level so that after Class XII students can get a suitable employment.”
Mr. Sibal said the paradigm shift in education should be done in such a manner that students become active learners and decide what they want to be. He said it was possible through three pillars of expansion, inclusion and excellence.
