THANJAVUR: Surjit Singh Barnala, Governor and Chancellor of Tamil University, conferred D.Litt. (Honoris Causa) degrees on Tamil writer Jayakanthan, epigraphist Iravatham Mahadevan and musicologist P. Ramathilagam at the convocation here on Monday.

R. Chambakalakshmi, retired professor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, paid rich tributes to Iravatham Mahadevan.
