VELLORE: Four persons were arrested at Arakkonam in Vellore district on Friday for kidnapping a man and his son for ransom recently. Police said Kumar (50) and his son Guhan (18), residents of Serunapalli village, were kidnapped by a six-member gang while they were returning home on a two-wheeler. The father and son were kidnapped at Nagavedu village. The police were on the lookout for two more persons in connection with the incident. Police said the kidnappers posed as vigilance officers and picked up Kumar and Guhan in a car on the pretext of conducting some inquiry. But both of them were kept in a secluded place near Arikalapadi village. Police said the kidnappers forced Guhan to call his mother and bring Rs.5 lakh for their release. Following their instruction, Guhan’s mother reached Shenthamangalam Railway Station with Rs.one lakh in cash and 15 sovereign of gold jewels. She pleaded that she had no other money with her. Police said the kidnappers took the money and fled from the spot. After this incident, Guhan lodged a complaint at the Arakkonam Taluk Office. Based on the complaint, a manhunt was launched for the kidnappers. The police on Friday arrested Vijaykumar (28) of Ammanur, Prakash (28) of Melpakkam, Sudhakar (32) and Jothi (24) of Arakkonam. However, the whereabouts of Sathish and another person was not known.
