The doll measures 10 feet Indushree has done over 3,000 shows
Ventriloquist R. Indushree with her doll in Bangalore on Sunday. BANGALORE: Magician and ventriloquist R. Indushree is attempting to get into the Guinness Book of World Records for her performance with a 10 ft. doll resembling the mythological character Mahishasura, the demon killed by Goddess Chamundeshwari. “No one has so far achieved this feat and I am sure my performance will be recognised for the world record. I have sent the entry and am awaiting a response from them,” said Indushree, who performed with the doll before the media on Saturday. The magician, who claimed to be the only woman ventriloquist to have used a doll of this size, said the idea to use a Mahishasura came during the recent Dasara festivities at Mysore. ‘Hard work’On the challenge to perform with a 10 ft. doll, she said: “A lot of hard work went in to prepare the script and practise. I have to strain my vocal chords since the doll is huge.” Comparing her performance with others, Ms. Indushree said magicians and ventriloquists normally used dolls ranging between 40 and 42 inches, and the use of bigger ones was a strain on the shoulders and the vocal chords. ‘Practice difficult’The magician, with over 3,000 shows to her credit, said it was difficult to practise with the 10 ft. doll since curious neighbours and onlookers flocked to her residence. “I have to wait till dark to do so,” she said. ‘Not for shows’Indushree who has already entered into the Limca Book of Records, says the Mahishasura doll was only meant for creating the record and was not intended for public shows.
