Uttar Pradesh in last four

GUWAHATI: Uttar Pradesh moved into the semifinals of the Ranji Trophy by virtue of its 64-run first innings lead against Assam on the fourth and final day at the Maligaon Stadium here on Sunday.

The quarterfinal match ended in a draw with Assam, chasing a target of 337, declaring at 259 for eight with four balls remaining for the completion of the eighth mandatory over.

Goswami scalps five

Earlier U.P., resuming on 259 for eight, added 16 runs in 5.2 overs. Medium-pacer Dhiraj Goswami picked up five wickets, giving away 57 runs.

The highlight of the day was Assam skipper Amol Muzumdar’s unbeaten 119; his 25th hundred and also his first century of the season.

Muzumdar stayed at the wicket four minutes short of five hours, facing 226 balls and hit 12 fours.
