Electronic media cautioned against sensationalism ‘Educate people on social issues, public schemes’ VIZIANAGARAM: TDP Polit Bureau member and MLA P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju exhorted the need to practice “dharma” apart from following the directive principles of the Constitution while highlighting the social objectives in writing reports. Participating as chief guest at the golden jubilee celebrations of APUWJ, organised by the Press Club of Vizianagaram on Sunday, Mr. Ashok said that of late “dharma” had taken a back seat. The Centre had constituted Sarkaria Commission two or three decades ago and a consensus was evolved after discussions with all political parties but unfortunately its submissions were not being implemented in any one of the 28 states in the country. He said that the Press helps Parliament from not being outdated and actually it was giving vital information to it on the happenings around. Of late, the number of visual media channels had been airing news and it would be better if only reports were balanced. In the morning session, Collector G. Ram Narayana Reddy asked scribes to educate people and project news with social responsibility. He cautioned electronic media journalists against sensationalism, as it would send wrong message and create probems for the administration. Superintendent of Police Y. Gangadhar said that 80 to 85 per cent of people even in remote areas view the news channels and hence sensationalism would have a negative impact. He asked the print and electronic media journalists to educate people on social issues and government schemes. Later, they felicitated Sufi Mohammed Sharif Khader Baba, a recipient of Bharat Sevak Ratna, for feeding poor throughout the year. The Baba, in his address, asked journalists to spread the message of truth and love. Mr. Ashok Gajapathi Raju felicitated senior journalists and gave away best photo journalists awards to Ch. Madhu (Leader), B. Narasinga Rao (Varta) and M. Uday Kamesh (EMS Agency). K. Lalitha Kumari, MLA, Y. Ramana Murty, TDP state organising secretary, Srinivasa Rao, MD of Siti Cable, D. Atchuta Rao, Press Academy member, Radhakrishna, Press Club president participated.
