Time to introspect

Viplava achayithala Sangham (Virasam) which wants to hold its conference in Visakhapatnam on January 2 and 3 amidst the turmoil in the State has to honestly introspect its ways. In Telangana, the Virasam and votaries of naxalism have also advocated separatism, blaming Andhra people, perhaps forgetting the clarion call ‘workers of the world unite’. Splitting the State splits the proletariat too, with regionalism taking precedence over communism. If a new state is formed, the political class will not be any different from the one in the combined state, with no hope of putting an end to the class struggle, or dealing with naxalism. The word Andhra has been in use since the ninth century to mean the Telugu language and Telugus, according to Arudra. As he is no more, perhaps he escapes criticism for naming his work as ‘Samagra Andhra Sahityam’. Parochialism in the State makes even the Virasam, which piggy-backs on the great poet Sri Sri, hesitant to quote him in Telangana unlike in the past. The Telugus’ infighting recalls to the mind the words of Gireesam in Kanyasulkam – ‘Manavallu votti vedhavayaloi’.

Recover loss

I truly agree with Praja Spandana president C.S. Rao that loss of public properties during the political agitations is a loss to the nation and as per the Supreme Court’s ruling, such losses should be recovered from the sponsors of the agitation. It is now to be seen what action will be taken by public undertakings like BSNL, APSRTC, HSBC – whether FIRs are lodged against the sponsors so that legal action is taken for recovery of losses. People should not be inconvenienced during such agitations.

President’s rule

To restore peace, calm and order, and to protect public and private property, President’s rule should be imposed in Andhra Pradesh immediately. If necessary, it should be extended after six months.

Power problem

The unscheduled power cut in the night between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. is causing inconvenience to the residents of VUDA Colony in Chinamushidiwada. Many of the residents here are old and patients with different ailments. The power problem should be resolved failing which the residents would be forced to lock their homes and move to city.
