In action: Kabaddi girls teams vying with each other at the National School Games Kabaddi Championship at Anneparthi in Nalgonda on Sunday. NALGONDA: Andhra Pradesh boys and girls teams marched into the semi-finals of the 55th National School Games Kabaddi Championship, which commenced three days behind schedule here on Sunday. The five day tournament could not take off as per schedule on December 24 owing to a violent protest by a mob allegedly comprising pro-Telangana activists. After much uncertainty, the tournament started on Sunday following the success of series of talks held between the organisers and the joint action committee of pro-Telangana student organisations late on Saturday night. Venue shiftedHowever, the organisers have changed the venue of the tournament from NG College Grounds to the 12th APSP Battalion Grounds at Anneparthy near Nalgonda on Sunday morning. The matches were conducted simultaneously on knockout basis in eight courts at the grounds throughout the day. Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Maharastra boys teams entered into the semi-finals. In the girls’ category, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Maharastra teams stormed into the semi-finals, said the organising secretary of the District School Games Federation K. Narsi Reddy. The semi-final and final matches will be held on Monday, he said. Earlier, Collector S.A.M. Rizvi inaugurated the tournament at Anneparthy. Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar, District Revenue Officer Hanmantha Reddy, District Educational Officer P. Sundara Rao, secretary of Andhra Pradesh School Games Federation K. Ram Reddy and others were present.
