Kozhikode
The sound of music: Michel Rutsho and Christine Dauwalder belted out a mix of classical, romantic and modern compositions at a programme in Kozhikode on Sunday. Kozhikode: ‘Wings of Love,’ a concert on classical guitars by the Swiss duo of Michel Rutsho and Christine Dauwalder, proved to be an enthralling experience for music lovers here on Sunday. The music played was selected from different periods and styles of musical revival in history such as the Renaissance, Baroque, Romantic and the post-1900 phase. These included pieces by Robert Johnson (1582-1633), Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), Gabriel Faure (1845-1924) and Piazzolla (1921-1992), besides Spanish and South American folk songs of Cantar Montanes, Ei Pano Moruno and De Blanca Reirra. The mix of classical, romantic and modern compositions that were played by Mr. Rutsho and Ms. Dauwalder went down well with the audience. Mr. Rutsho studied with the Spanish guitarist Miguel Rubio at the Conservatory of Biel, graduating in 1968. He is now Professor of Music, teaching guitar at the University of Music and Theatre in Berne. Ms. Dauwalder graduated from the Conservatory of Biel in 1981 and presents children’s theatre and other productions, besides giving concerts in the Basel region in France. The two musicians say their previous visit to India in October 1988 was well received and this prompted them to come again and perform in more cities.
