Staff Reporter

Among tribals: Minister for the Welfare of Scheduled and Backward Communities A.K. Balan and Forest Minister Benoy Viswom visiting the tribal colonies in the Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary in Palakkad on Sunday.

PALAKKAD: Minister for the Welfare of Scheduled and Backward Communities A.K. Balan said here on Sunday that all landless tribes in the State would be given land by next year.

Mr. Balan and Forest Minister Benoy Viswom, who visited the six tribal colonies in the Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, said no tribesman would be uprooted from his habitat while declaring the sanctuary as a Tiger Reserve.

They said in view of the difficulty in drawing power lines through the forest, insulated underground power lines would be laid.

The Ministers visited the Thekkadi Allimoopan Colony, Sungam, Earth Dam, Kadas Colony, Muppathekkar Colony and PAP Colony.

Mr. Balan laid the foundations for a pre-metric tribal hostel at Sungam colony. Mr. Viswom inaugurated the distribution of keys of 61 new houses constructed at Sungam colony for the tribal people. The Minister also inaugurated a drinking water scheme at Kadars Colony. At another function, Mr. Balan inaugurated the distribution of free Ayurveda medicines to poor patients at the Parambikulam Ayurveda Hospital, under the aegis of Daya Charitable Trust and Janamythri Social Security Scheme of the Town South Police.
