Vijayawada
All ok? Deputy Transport Commissioner T.Raghunath inspecting school buses in a drive in Vijayawada on Sunday. VIJAYAWADA: A special drive was conducted at the PWD Grounds to check the fitness of hundreds of school buses in the city on Sunday, when the transport officials asserted that there will be a continuous monitoring of these buses as a precautionary measure to ensure better standards. Under the leadership of deputy transport commissioner T. Raghunath, the transport officials took a close look at the conditions of the buses and checked whether they were fitted with necessary grills on windows and the like for the safety of the children. The drive assumed significance in the wake of a recent incident in the city involving the death of a school child two days ago. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Raghunath said that the school managements should maintain utmost alertness and attention with regard to ensuring the safety of children travelling in their buses. He threatened to take stringent action in any case of lapse on the part of the managements. Schools in and around the city brought their buses in hundreds to the venue to avoid action from the authorities. The officials suggested in some cases that the grills should be properly fitted so that there would be no scope for the children to put their heads or hands out through the windows.
