HYDERABAD: The BJP will launch ‘Jai Andhra’ movement with “like-minded” leaders from Vijayawada on Monday, State BJP president Bandaru Dattatreya announced here on Sunday. At a press conference here, he said the party would also undertake a campaign on the issue in Kukatpally area in the city where a large number people from Andhra and Rayalaseema reside. He said the BJP from the beginning had been consistent on bifurcation of the State. Referring to the ongoing agitation in Telangana for a separate State, he accused the Government of trying to suppress it through “police raj”. He said the situation in Telangana had become volatile after the second statement of Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram. The agitation was not being conducted only by political parties and the people were voluntarily participating in it. Criticising the authorities for treating it as mere a law and order problem, he said that it showed the “bankruptcy” of the Government. Demanding that the cases booked against students be withdrawn immediately, he announced that the BJP would open a control room in the party office here to provide free legal aid to fight cases booked against agitators. The control room would be headed by advocate Anthony Reddy. He also hit out at the Government for registering non-bailable cases against 800 advocates.
