Maudany questions NIA’s decision

KOCHI: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairman Abdul Nasir Maudany on Monday alleged that the decision by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe the Kalamassery bus-burning case was politically motivated.

Addressing a press conference here, he accused the United Democratic Front (UDF) leadership of plotting against his party, family and the Muslim community.

Arguing that the NIA had bypassed all norms by taking up the bus-burning case, which was under investigation by the State Police, Mr. Maudany said that the remarks made by the Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan against the NIA’s decision were not aimed at supporting the PDP.

He questioned the NIA’s ‘keenness’ on investigating the bus-burning case, which had not claimed any lives, while disregarding cases involving the massacre of innocents in places like Gujarat.

Asked whether a national agency like the NIA could be influenced, Mr. Maudany pointed out that any agency in the country could be influenced, going by his experience in the Coimbatore blast case.

Denying allegations that his party had received hawala money from outside the country, the PDP chairman said that certain influential persons in the State were receiving such funds.

Mr. Maudany said that he was ready to hand over documents proving the involvement of such persons before any investigating agency.

He said that the PDP would organise an agitation against attempts to defame the party and its leadership.

A convention would be held at Aluva on January 2 to announce the action plan, Mr. Maudany added.

He said that the party activists would distribute leaflets highlighting the “conspiracy against the PDP leadership in various terrorism cases.”

The partymen would also march to the Raj Bhavan on January 13, as part of the agitation.
