Senior BJP leaders bat for unanimous decision on new president DAVANGERE: Gurusiddana Gowda, former MLA and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader, has been elected as the president of the Davangere unit of the BJP here on Monday. Previous term
Mr. Gowda has served as president of the district unit of the BJP a few years ago, but resigned following his election to the State Assembly. BJP leaders Anaberu Jeevanmurthy, Jagadish, Lingappa and Hanumanthappa were in the fray for the post. However, it has been said that senior party leaders such as Minister for Agriculture S.A. Ravindranath, Minister for Excise M.P. Renukacharya, Chief Whip in the Legislative Council A.H. Shivayogiswamy and G.M. Siddeshwara, Davangere MP, held a meeting with the candidates and stressed the need to elect a unanimous winner and asked them to withdraw their nominations. Ayanur Manjunath, former MP and district election officer, and Siddaram, MLC and assistant election officer, conducted the elections amid frenzied activity as all the candidates tried their best to win the favour of the senior leaders. Minister for Revenue G. Karunakara Reddy, who was elected from Harapanahalli Assembly constituency, did not participate in the elections for the new president of the district unit.
