Thrissur: Five jail officials, including a jailer and four warders at the Viyyur Central jail, have been placed under suspension for allegedly failing to properly supervise a remand prisoner who escaped from custody on Sunday. According to preliminary investigation, the officials failed to keep a close watch on the prisoner. Athikkudathi Parambil Surendran, 32, accused in many ripper-model attacks on women, escaped from the Thrissur Government Medical College. Surendran managed to give a slip to the officials for the second time in 10 days. — Staff Reporter
