Dehra Dun: The former Andhra Pradesh Governor, N.D. Tiwari, who resigned in the wake of a sex scandal, on Monday said the allegations against him were “fabricated and false.”

On return to his home State, Uttarakhand, 84-year-old Tiwari told journalists at the Jollygrant Airport: “It is baseless, fake... It is risky to even talk to a woman ... Anyone can make an allegation. It is 100 per cent wrong allegation.”

He said some people in Andhra Pradesh hatched a conspiracy against him. Declining to name anyone, he said some people associated with the Telangana statehood agitation wanted to meet President Pratibha Patil during her proposed visit to Hyderabad, but he refused to entertain their request. This angered these people and they hatched a conspiracy against him, he claimed. “I apologise to the nation but I have done no wrong. I have been framed,” he added.

Mr. Tiwari resigned on Saturday on “health grounds” in the wake of a public outcry after a sting operation by a Telugu TV channel showed images of the elderly man — allegedly Mr. Tiwari — in a compromising position with three women in Raj Bhavan. The Raj Bhavan dismissed the allegations as a “tissue of lies.”

The Congress leader said he had no grudge against anybody and would continue to serve the country as well as society. “I am not disturbed. I have participated in the freedom movement and will fight it out,” he said. “I am not going to retire from politics.” — PTI, IANS
