Coimbatore: Sri Krishna Sweets on Friday honoured six persons with Gnana Semmal awards for contribution and excellence in religious literature. They were felicitated by Managing Directors of Sri Krishna Sweets M. Krishnan and M. Murali at a function held at Ayyappa Puja Sangham here.
The awardees chosen for the Award included V. Swaminatha Athreya of Tanjore. He was earlier given the Agavithilagam award and had been an ‘asthana vidwan’ of the Kanchi Mutt. The Sahitya Parishad had honoured him with Sahidi Vallabha award. He had authored and compiled many works of the Thanjavur Saraswathi Mahal.
He could not take part in the function and receive the award.
The other awardees are: L. Shanmugasundaram. He had written explanations for Thirumanthiram, Thiruvasagam and Thivyaprabandham.
M.R.P. Gurusamy had served in World Tamil Research Centre and had published 33 literary books and six translation works. T.V.A. Seshan had been involving in temples kumbabishegams and authored 25 suprabathams. His Jageshwar Suprabatham was recently released in Himalayas. He was a student of economics and thorough in English as well and had worked in The Hindu newspaper.
V. Sivasubramanian had bagged titles such as Tamil Kadal, Tamil Kalainidhi, Siddhanthamani, Kamban Kalaimani and Periyapura Peroli.
T.N. Ramachandran had translated a number of religious books in Tamil to English and had been conducting Periyapuranam and Saivasidhantham classes.
