Kakinada: East Godavari district stood first in the State in implementing Rajiv Arogyasri health insurance scheme for the second consecutive year with an expenditure of nearly Rs. 110 crore incurred on 35,081 surgeries / therapies. Krishna and Guntur are ranked second and third with 34,797 (Rs 103 crore) and 34,276 surgeries (Rs 105 crore) respectively. Seventeen surgical and 12 medical specialties (942 packages - 781 surgical/cancer and 159 medical) were covered under the first and second phases after former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy launched Arogyasri in the district on December 5, 2007. Announcing this at a press conference here on Sundaydistrict Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi said patients not possessing Arogyasri or ration cards were being issued special Arogyasri cards and financial assistance extended from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. About 600 such cases were approved and operations done at recognised hospitals in Hyderabad.
