Believers Church general assembly begins today

PATHANAMTHITTA: The general assembly of Believers Church will begin at St. Thomas Nagar at Kuttapuzha, near Thiruvalla, on Monday.

Metropolitan K.P. Yohannan will inaugurate the assembly at 9 a.m. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostum, senior

Metropolitan of Mar Thoma Church, will deliver the benedictory speech on the occasion.

Union Minister Oscar Fernadez will be the guest of honour and Dr. Thomas Mar Coorilos, Archbishop of Thiruvalla, will deliver the keynote address.

P.J. Kurien, Rajya Sabha member, Anto Antony, MP, Mathew T. Thomas, Raju Abraham, K.C. Rajagopalan, MLAs; and Cherian Polachirackal, municipal chairman, will also address the function.

Union Minister of State for Human Resource D. Purandewari will inaugurate the free education scheme for children sponsored by the church 10 a.m.

Nirmala Fenn, national chairperson of Young Women’s Christian Association, will inaugurate the women’s assembly to be held on Tuesday forenoon and Valsan Thambu, Principal of St. Stephens College, New Delhi, will inaugurate the youth meet on Wednesday.

A jubilee rally will be held from BCRS Road to St. Thomas Nagar, followed by cultural programmes on January 9 and the general assembly will come to a close with a holy mass at the St. Thomas Cathedral on January 10.
