Association’s appeal

Staff Reporter

Tirupur: Tirupur Consumer Voice (TCV) has opposed the plan to shift the location of a road overbridge, designed to connect Kongu Nagar with the Tirupur-Uthukuli highway, from across Kongu Nagar railway gate to Kuthoospuram area.

TCV secretary P. Somasundaram told The Hindu that the body had appealed to the Union Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee and authorities concerned in the Highways Department to reconsider the decision.

“We are making the request in the wake of opposition from the public ,” he said.

According to him, shifting the location of the overbridge will thwart the very purpose of the project.

“The over bridge had been suggested to facilitate smoother flow of traffic between Kongu Nagar area and Uthukuli road, which is extremely high at the moment.

Hence, the construction of an overbridge at that location will help ease traffic on Uthukuli Road and Kongu Nagar, whenever the railway gate was closed,” he pointed out.
