Raj Bhavan got power supply from five feeders Multiple substations supplied power to the three venues THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Electricity Board took unprecedented steps to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the city during the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The venues of the Prime Minister’s programmes — the Karyavattom campus of the University of Kerala, the Kanakakkunnu Palace and the Government College of Women — were supplied power from at least two substations. Technical staff of the board monitored each power line and installation round the clock. At the Raj Bhavan, where the Prime Minister stayed on Saturday night, power was supplied from as many as five 11-kV feeders. “This is for the first time that we made such an arrangement in the capital city. The measures we took also reflect the seriousness with which the district administration went about making arrangements for the Prime Minister’s visit,” a senior KSEB engineer said here. The Ring Main Unit of the KSEB near the Raj Bhavan was supplied power from the substations at Paruthippara, Thirumala and the Legislative Assembly complex. Board personnel undertook maintenance work in the city on a war-footing prior to the Prime Minister’s visit. An emergency team was formed to regulate power supply. Anxious momentsBoard officials had some anxious moments when a traffic accident at the Eswaravilasom junction early on Sunday morning damaged a post supporting an 11-kV line and nearby electrical installations. Steps were taken immediately to ensure that there were no power supply problems. The police personnel worked in tandem with Board officials in ensuring uninterrupted power supply, the Board engineer added.
