Award for Iravadham Mahadeven

Iravadham Mahadevan

CHENNAI: Noted epigraphist and Tamil scholar Iravadham Mahadeven has been selected for this year’s Ayyan Tiruvalluvar award.

Every year Tamil scholars, poets, social and cultural activists are given award for their contribution. The award carries Rs. 1 lakh and a gold medal. While the Arignar Anna award will be given to the Vice-Chancellor of Thanjavur Tamil University Avvai Natarajan, the Ambedkar award will go to social activist Krishnammal Jaganthan.

Former Congress legislator R. Chokkar has been chosen for the Perunthaliavar Kamarajar award and novelist V. Annamalai, who writes in the penname Imayam, for the Thiru-Vi-Ka award.

The Bharathiyar award and the Bharathidasan award go to Tamil scholar T.N. Ramachandran and poet Tamildasan. The K.A.P. Viswanatham award will be given to Thayammal Aravanan and the Thanthai Periyar award for social justice to journalist Nakkeeran Gopal.
