Recruitment to over 5,000 posts in the Health Department has been completed: Sriramulu

‘New building of the district hospital will be constructed before November 2011’

‘Steps will be taken to restart dialysis centre, heart check-up centre at the district hospital’

CHAMARAJANAGAR: Health Minister B. Sriramulu has said that steps will be taken to sanction primary health centres (PHCs) in rural areas if 2 acres of land to set up the PHC is available.

Mr. Sriramulu was speaking at a meeting of farmers and Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists here on Tuesday. He said that recruitment to over 5,000 posts in the Health Department had been completed. He said that priority would be given to appointing doctors and paramedical staff in the Chamarajanagar District Hospital while filling various posts.

He said that steps would be taken to develop Chamarajanagar district after discussing various matters with the Chief Minister and other Cabinet Ministers, complete the construction of the new building of the district hospital before November 2011 and check irregularities in the district hospital.

Mr. Sriramulu also said that steps would be taken to restart the dialysis centre and the heart check-up centre at the district hospital and added that the blood bank and burns ward would start functioning within two months. He also said that steps would be taken to sanction two more ambulances to the hospital under the Arogya Raksha scheme.

Mr. Sriramulu said that steps had been taken to appoint 1,371 doctors in the State and a law had been formulated to make such newly appointed doctors work in rural areas for at least three years. Earlier, Mr. Sriramulu and district in-charge Minister Hartal Halappa visited the district hospital where they listened to the complaints of patients and vedike members. The leaders of the vedike told the Ministers about the “irregularities” in the district hospital. They alleged that though there were 17 sanctioned doctor posts, only five doctors were available in the day. They claimed that funds of Rs. 25 lakh sanctioned in 2007 to open a Yoga and Nature Care Centre in the district had been returned to the Government without utilising it.

The vedike members urged Mr. Sriramulu to solve their problems. Mr. Halappa and Principal Secretaries for Health, Forests, Minor Irrigation, Major Irrigation and Horticulture listened to the farmers’ 26 demands. The respective Principal Secretaries assured the farmers that appropriate action would be taken.

Chamarajanagar MLA Puttaranga Shetty, Gundlupet MLA H.S. Mahadev Prasad, Hanur MLA Narendra, Kollegal MLA Nanjundaswamy, working president of the KRRS Kodihalli Chandrashekar, MLC Mallikarjunappa and district in-charge Secretary Kongavad were present.
