Action against Chembur Gymkhana likely after don’s New Year’s party
Mumbai: Police are likely to take act against Chembur Gymkhana management, where a party was thrown allegedly by gangster Chhota Rajan gang members on New Year’s Eve with five senior police officers among those present, as it remained open till 5 am violating norms of Bombay Police Act.
The party in Chembur Gymkhana began at around 10 pm and as per norms it should have continued till 1.30 am, a crime branch official said.
However, the party continued till 5 am, which is a blatant violation of norms as any club or gymkhana is allowed to remain open till 1.30 am as per the Bombay Police Act, he added.
Loud speakers were on and alcohol was served till morning, the officer said, adding appropriate action would be taken against the Gymkhana management.
Meanwhile, the police are now examining about 350 photographs and CCTV footages of the party before initiating further action against the five suspended cops who attended the party.
Five policemen, Deputy Police Commissioner (Special Branch 1) V N Salve, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Prakash Wani, Senior Police Inspector Ramesh Khakale, Assistant Police Inspector (Anti-Extortion Cell) N.Kolhatkar and constable Rajendra Ghorpade have been suspended for attending the party and a departmental inquiry is on against them.- PTI
