Peaceful discussions only way forward: JP

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Lok Satta Party president Jayaprakash Narayan has welcomed the beginning of the consultation process for resolution of the Telangana tangle initiated by the Centre and appealed to all the parties to stop indulging in competitive disruption of life and help restore normality to take the discussions forward.

Addressing a media conference here on Tuesday, Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan said that governance in the State had slackened in many fields and if there was no change in the situation, it would lead to a constitutional breakdown. The disruption in normal life in all the regions due to bandhs had badly affected all sections, particularly the poor daily wagers and common people, he said.

Real concerns

He regretted that political parties were only talking to gain backing of people in one particular region without promoting a healthy discussion on their real concerns. The Lok Satta would soon tour all regions once tempers cool down to talk to people about their genuine grievances. He said whether the State was divided or kept united, no one region or group would walk away with all its desires fulfilled in a democratic set-up.

Media organisations which also contributed for escalating the crisis should show restraint and stop treating politics as a cricket match or suspense thriller, he said.

He called upon upon every political party/group to turn the present crisis into an opportunity by working towards empowering local bodies to address demands of people at the panchayat, municipality and district level.
