CHANDIGARH: The Haryana police registered a third First Information Report against the former Director-General of Police, S.P.S. Rathore, on Tuesday, under Section 306 of the IPC charging him with abetment to suicide of the budding tennis player he molested in 1990. She committed suicide three years later. Legal opinion takenPanchkula Superintendent of Police Maneesh Chaudhary said: “As the case was very old, we took legal opinion and then registered an FIR. We have recommended that this case be also handed over to the Special Investigation Team which is probing the two other new cases against Rathore.” Asked when Rathore might be arrested, he said: “Investigation is more important than arrest. The accused is on bail and is going to be present before the court on 7th. We are focussing on investigating the charges at the moment.” The SIT will subsequently recommend to the State government to hand over the three cases to the CBI as demanded by the victim’s family, the SP added. Witness hails moveWelcoming the development, Aradhana, the only witness to the molestation, said: “I am sure justice will be done. I am happy that the inquiry might now be marked to the CBI. We are happy that Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has kept his promise.” Last week, Mr. Hooda had indicated that an FIR may be registered based on the victim’s brother’s complaint under Section 306.
