CHICKABALLAPUR: From Saturday, people using National Highway 7 have to pay user fee at the National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) toll plaza at Bagepalli on the Karnataka-Andhra Pradesh border. The NHAI will collect the fee from motorists using the 71-km stretch of the new four-lane highway between Bagepalli in Chickaballapur district and Devanahalli in Bangalore Rural district. Vehicles on their way to Bangalore from Andhra Pradesh and those bound for Hyderabad, Puttaparthi, Anantapur and neighbouring places in Andhra Pradesh have to pay the user fee. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has fixed a fee of Rs. 50 for one trip and Rs. 75 for a return trip on the same day for cars, vans and other light motor vehicles (LMVs). The fee will be Rs. 175 and Rs. 260 (for the return trip) for buses and lorries. For minibuses, light goods vehicle and light commercial vehicles (LCVs), it will be Rs. 85 and Rs. 125 (for the return trip). The Ministry has fixed Rs. 165 for monthly passes to be issued for local non-commercial vehicles. According to Chickaballapur Deputy Commissioner Anwar Pasha, the NHAI will collect user fee as it has developed the four-lane highway on the Bangalore-Hyderabad section under private-public partnership (PPP). The highway work, including construction of a bypass at Chickaballapur, was completed a few days ago.
