Sports, cultural events for women SHGs conducted

DHARMAPURI/KRISHNAGIRI: Sports and cultural events for the members of women self-help groups were held in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts.

Rangoli, group songs, street play and tug-of-war competitions were conducted for the SHG members at the District Sports stadium in Dharmapuri on Wednesday.

After going round the rangolis, Collector P. Amutha gave away prizes to the winners. She also handed over Manimekalai Award to the best Village-level Federation and self-help groups.

She asked the women to be fit physically and mentally to face the challenges. She said that sports and cultural events were conducted to bring out the inherent talent of the women.

She appealed to the women to take pride not envy each other. Women should be a role model for others in their area.

She gave away Manimekalai Award to Mukkalnayakkanpatti PLF and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000.

The award for the best SHGs and Rs. 10,000 each were given to Arivoli Annai Indira Mahalir Manram in Nallampalli Union, Nila Mahalir Manram, Harur Union, India Mahalir Manram, Pennagaram, and Sri Durga Mahalir Manram, Morappur.

The taluk-level best SHG awards went to Annai Mahalir Manram, Nallampalli Union, Avvai Mahalir Manram, Dharmapuri Union, Sri Durga Mahalir Manram, Morappur Union and Annai Rani Ammaiyar Mahalir Manram. Earlier she inaugurated the fibre glass board basketball bought under the Namakku Naame Thittam at a cost of Rs. 48,500.

Members of the Manjawadi PLF staged a street play on the evils of female infanticide.

In Krishnagiri, Collector V.K. Shanmugam inaugurated the cultural and sports events at the Coronotion Grounds.
