Demonstration staged

Staff Reporter

Tirupur: The government employees affiliated to Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association (TNGEA) staged a demonstration here on Thursday to press their charter of demands.

TNGEA district vice-president G. Vijayan said that steps should be taken to ensure 33 per cent reservation for women in government jobs.

Likewise, all vacancies needed to be filled on a war footing to improve the functioning of the government machinery.

Some of the other major demands include scrapping of the new contributory pension scheme and dropping the move to disinvest the shares of profit making public sector undertakings.

The recent order issued by the State Government allowing appointment of retired government employees in the government sector on consolidated pay scale should be withdrawn.

“It is a totally unwise decision considering that nearly 68 lakh youth in the State are jobless,” he pointed out.

TNGEA district president D. Rajagopal was present.
