15th round of pulse polio from tomorrow

HYDERABAD: Arrangements have been made for conduct of the 15th round of “Pulse Polio Programme” in the State for four days from January 10, covering an estimated 99.97 lakh children aged above 5 years to insulate them from polio.

Chief Minister K. Rosaiah will symbolically launch the programme on Sunday by administering a dose of trivalent oral polio vaccine to a child.

This vaccine is found to be effective in tackling all the three types of polio virus. Announcing this at a press conference here on Friday, Health Minister D. Nagender said 63,766 polio booths in rural and urban areas would function during this round.

Special focus would be on remote tribal and fishermen habitations, slums and unauthorised and temporary settlements.

Over 1,860 mobile teams would cover the children of nomadic groups, beggars, migrated families, labourers at the construction sites and even agriculture fields.
