Corrections and Clarifications

>>The fourth paragraph of the report, “Honouring a multi-faceted personality” (Sport, January 8, 2010), referred to K. Ponmudi as Tamil Minister for Higher Education. It should have been Tamil Nadu.

>>A sentence in the news item, “High Court notice to Haryana, CBI, Rathore” (January 8, 2010), said “… the expulsion of the girl, who was molested by Rathore and who later suicide, from the school…” It should have been later committed suicide.

>>The penultimate paragraph of the news report on the Tamil Nadu Opposition criticising the Governor’s address (Chennai City Page 9, January 7, 2010) said: “…. statistics showed that 3.28 lakh people, almost 50 per cent of the population, depended on the free dhotis and saris.” It should have been 3.28 crore.

>>Readers have pointed out some errors in the Diary of Events 2009 which was published along with the edition of January 6, 2010.

>>April 15: Voting held in Phase 1 of Lok Sabha polls. The date was wrong. It should have been April 16.

>>May 2: Charge sheets filed against Gujarat Minister Maya Kodani. It should have been former Gujarat Minister.

>>May 16: In Tamil Nadu, the DMK-Congress combine wins 28 seats. It should have been 27.

>>Aug. 16: Usian Bolt breaks his own world record in the 100m event as he clocks 9.54s at the World Championship in Berlin. It should have been 9.58s.

>>Dec. 13: T.S. Satyan died at a hospital in Bangalore (It should have been Mysore).

>>A reader said the reference to the Tamil Nadu government’s insurance scheme as Chief Minister’s Insurance Scheme (Jan. 21) was incorrect and it should have been Kalaignar Insurance Scheme. However, the Governor of Tamil Nadu in his address in the Legislative Assembly on Jan. 21 announced that a new scheme called ‘Chief Minister’s Insurance Scheme for Life Saving Treatments’ would be launched… The scheme is commonly known as “Kalaignar Health Insurance Scheme.”
