They complain of total disregard to their problems
‘Industrial relations in all the four corporations have collapsed’ Bangalore: Senior office-bearers of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation Staff and Workers’ Federation, affiliated to the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), on Friday called on Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and apprised him on what they termed the disregard being shown to the employees’ trade union by Minister for Transport R. Ashok and a section of the senior officials of the four government bus corporations in the State. General secretary of the federation H.V. Ananthasubba Rao and secretary Nagaraju urged Mr. Yeddyurappa to chair a high-level meeting of the managements of the bus corporations, the Transport Minister and the representatives of the employees’ union to sort out all contentious issues. They said “on different occasions we had the privilege of submitting memorandums to you on the problems of the KSRTC’s employees. We were assured that a meeting of the managements of all the four corporations — KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC and NEKRTC — would be convened under your chairmanship, and it is yet to be held”. The representatives of the employees said the general health of the corporations was deteriorating and industrial relations in all four corporations had collapsed. The problems faced by over a lakh workers were not being attended to and “it may be of interest to you to know that in the KSRTC, the question of recognition of unions is being decided by holding a referendum of all Class III and IV employees through secret ballot. The referendum is to be held every four years and the last such referendum was held in 1992. From then no referendum has been held in the KSRTC”.
