Abha Rathore moves HC

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court will hear the anticipatory bail plea of the former Haryana DGP, S.P.S. Rathore, in connection with the fresh cases registered against him, on Tuesday.

On Monday, Justice Sabina listed Rathore's petition for hearing on Tuesday, without granting him any interim relief against arrest. Rathore's wife Abha Rathore moved the High Court challenging the Sessions Court order that denied anticipatory bail to Rathore in relation to two fresh FIRs that levelled serious criminal charges against him in the molestation case of a school girl.

She also petitioned the High Court seeking the quashing of the third FIR which mentioned the charge of abetment to suicide of the girl molested.

Arguing the case, Mrs. Rathore said the police registered the fresh FIRs due to media pressure. "Media has taken everything in their hands and they are running their own trial in this case," she said.

She pleaded that Rathore be granted anticipatory bail as he underwent a heart surgery in 2007 and gave assurance that he would join the investigations. "We have always maintained that we are ready to join the investigations at any time."

Two new FIRs were registered against Rathore on December 29, listing charges of attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, forging evidence, wrongful confinement, fabricating false evidence and criminal conspiracy.

The Haryana government has already recommended to the Centre that the CBI should be handed over the investigation into the fresh charges against Rathore and other
