Tenders being finalised for the hospital and the medical college, says Minister The project is scheduled to be completed by 2012 BHUBANESWAR: The upcoming All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Bhubaneswar will have a 978-bed hospital, besides 15 super speciality and 18 speciality wards have also been proposed. Taking a review meeting on the progress of the AIIMS, State Health Minister Prasanna Acharya said Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry was finalising tenders valuing Rs. 64 crore for hospital and Rs. 210 crore for medical college. The State government was supposed to provide 100 acres of land at Sijua on the outskirts of capital city for the prestigious institute. According to a review meeting, while 93 acres have already been transferred for starting construction, remaining seven acres of land would soon be handed over. However, the progress of establishment of the AIIMS at Bhubaneswar was not satisfactory. “While constructions of residential buildings for the AIIMS at Patna, Jaipur, Bhopal, Rishikesh and Jodhpur have been completed by 75 per cent to 80 per cent. In case of Bhubaneswar, it has been 10 per cent to 15 per cent,” State Health Department said in a statement. Start plantationMr. Acharya suggested engineers to start plantation saying by the time of completion the campus should look green. At present works for construction of eight blocks including type-2, type-3 quarters and bungalow for the AIIMS director was going on and work on hostel for under graduate students would begin soon. Road connectivityThe State government had already provided road connectivity and land free of cost for the AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. The much hyped project was scheduled to be completed by 2012. Among others who participated in the review meeting included Health Secretary Anu Garg, Khurda district Collector Narayan Chandra Jena and Bibhuti Bhushan Balabanta Ray, legislator representing Jatni Assembly segment.
