Tuticorin airport to be expanded

Tuticorin: The Tuticorin airport would be expanded with a sprawling 600 acre. With more infrastructural developments to come up in Tuticorin, the top priority was accorded to the expansion of the airport, Collector G. Prakash said here on Monday.

Mr. Prakash made an on-the-spot assessment at the airport on January 6 and took stock of the situation.

Reports necessary for the expansion of the airport had been sent to the officials concerned in the Airport Authority of India for the approval.

About 110 acres of land in addition to the existing site for the expansion was set aside for carrying out operations of the Indian Air Force and Coast Guard personnel. As per the Land Plan schedule, the infrastructural developments on the proposed site would be taken up on uncultivable land.
