Special Correspondent

BJP workers are said to have pelted stones at JD(S) office

Bidar: The protest by the BJP workers against the intemperate remarks of JD (S) leader H.D. Deve Gowda against Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa took a violent turn with the BJP workers pelting stones at the office of the JD (S) in Bidar on Monday.

According to eye witness accounts, a handful of BJP workers had come on two-wheelers and pelted stones on the office of the JD (S) located near Mohan Market. No significant damage had been reported.

Later, they went to the BJP office and burnt the effigy of Mr. Gowda condemning the remarks made against the Chief Minister. They also demanded Mr. Gowda to tender an unconditional apology for his outburst against Mr. Yeddyurappa.

BJP District Unit General Secretary Revanasiddappa Jalade, Babu Wali, Councilors Ravi Swamy, Raja Ram were present in the party office at the time of the protest.

In a counter agitation, the JD (S) workers led by Shantlinga Savalgi, Srikant Swamy, Shaheen Patel, CMC Councilors Javeed, Manohar Dhande and others took out a rally from the party office to the Deputy Commissioner’s office condemning the attack on the party office by the BJP workers.

Memorandum

In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, they charged the BJP workers of taking law into their hands. They also raised slogans against Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa for his stand on the NICE company issue.

They demanded the administration and the police to deal firmly against those who were responsible for the attack and using foul language against the JD(S) leaders during protest. They also burnt the BJP flag condemning the stone pelting incident. Meanwhile, a case has been registered in connection with the stone pelting incident in New Town Police Station and policemen have been posted outside the office of the JD (S) as a precautionary measure.

Other districts

Similar protests were held in Bijapur and Gulbarga districts also.

In Gulbarga, the BJP workers were led by Rural District President Rajkumar Patil Telkur, City Unit President Vijaykumar Sevalani and Chairman of the Hyderabad Karnataka Development Board Chairman Amarnath Patil.

The BJP leaders said that there was no need for agitation on the road against the NICE’s project. Mr. Gowda should use the floor of the House to register his protest against any policy or project of the government. They demanded an apology from Mr. Gowda.
