Cultural show by students impresses Dalai Lama

CHANDRAGIRI (GAJAPATI DIST): For the young Tibetan children Dalai Lama was the representation of the Tibet which they have never come face to face till date.

On the first day of his three-day visit to the Tibetan settlements near Chandragiri, the exiled Tibetan leader made a visit to the Central School for Tibetans. It was ninth visit of the Dalai Lama to Orissa and Chandragiri. According to principal of the institute, Jitendra Mohan Verma, their students had prepared for months for this occasion. The children had tried to impress the Dalai Lama with cultural shows that adhered to the traditional culture of Tibet. Impressed by the efforts of the students of the school to upkeep their cultural heritage keeping pace with the modern education, Dalai Lama declared a donation of Rs. 25 lakh for the improvement of the school. He also donated Rs. 15,000 for a picnic of the students.

Tashi Pangzom, Choeil Dolma and Sonam Paldon who had participated in this cultural show said for them a performance before the great Lama was almost a trip to Tibet. “Even our parents say so”, they said. The Dalai Lama in his address to the students and teachers of the institute applauded the efforts to keep alive the tradition and language of Tibet among the new generation. He thanked the Indian staff of the school for extending all support to the Tibetan populace of the settlements of Chandragiri area.

He was impressed by the traditional cultural show presented by the young students. The first performance of the students was a group song, which depicted the unity among the three major provinces of erstwhile Tibetan regime. The second performance of the children was named ‘Golden wheel’. It was expression of happiness by the children over the blessings showered on them by the Tibetan Spiritual leader. The children had got themselves decorated in the colourful traditional attires for the demonstrations before the Dalai Lama.
