JNTU-K moots grading system

Move to establish ASC is also being considered

Industry-oriented courses are on the anvil


Kakinada: The JNTU-Kakinada is contemplating introducing grading system in the place of percentage of marks for reducing the unhealthy competition in securing marks which are not always an absolute indicator of merit.

The system of giving grades for marks in different ranges is sought to be debated by students and parents. The proposal will be implemented if it gains the students’ acceptability, according to Vice-Chancellor Allam Appa Rao.

The modalities of grading system which is an important initiative pertaining to examinations are being worked out by the

Director of Evaluation K. Satya Prasad.

The affiliated colleges are asked to find the students’ opinion about grading and see whether it can be made applicable at the graduate and post-graduate levels in a phased manner.

Establishment of Academic Staff College is also being looked into with the objective of organising specially designed orientation programmes in pedagogy, educational psychology and philosophy for all new entrants and serving teachers. Deployment of information and communications technologies is given priority to enable teachers meet the present day requirements efficiently.

Inputs

Besides, industry-oriented courses are on the anvil for which the feedback of industries being taken.

The curriculum is planned to be designed by taking the inputs from industries, institutes and competency records. The Academic Audit Cell headed by G.V.R. Prasada Raju has taken the necessary regulatory work.
