Abandoned arms recovered
Staff Reporter
Mumbai: In two separate incidents in the city on Monday, an abandoned bag containing crude weapons was recovered at a railway station and a branch office of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) was evacuated following a bomb scare.
Around 1.30 p.m. a bag containing two country-made revolvers, 12 rounds of 7.65 mm mark, two choppers and newspapers were found abandoned by the police during a routine check at the Thane railway station. “The person carrying it might have left it there on seeing police presence and fled,” Tukaram Chavan, Commissioner of Government
Railway Police told The Hindu on the phone.
In another incident, a press note issued by the BMC informed that around 2.30 p.m., the civic body’s R/Central office received a phone call from an anonymous person that the office would be blown up in 15 minutes. Following the hoax call, the office was evacuated, the local fire station and police were intimated and a bomb squad was rushed to the spot.
