New Delhi
NEW DELHI: At the receiving end of criticism and public anger for failing to meet the Capital’s demand for power in the summer of 2009, power distribution company BSES claims to have made “more than adequate power arrangements for the winter of 2009-10”. A statement issued by the company on Monday said both BRPL and BYPL, with concurrence of the Delhi Power Procurement Group (DPPG), have already started banking surplus power during lean periods between January and March. “BRPL has started banking 233 MW of surplus power daily during the lean hours (night hours) in January. For February and March, it has firmed up arrangements to bank 297 MW each. It is exploring options to bank an additional 200 MW daily in each of the three months,” said a company spokesperson. He said for January, BYPL has started banking 233 MW of surplus power during the night lean hours and 297 MW for February and March. The spokesperson said BRPL would bank 374 MW for January with Himachal and M.P. and 338.5 MW and 310 MW during February and March again with Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. This surplus power will be banked till March 31 and made available during the peak summer months. “The ‘banked’ power will not only ensure a comfortable power situation during the summer months but also cushion the power tariff burden to an extent as there is no monetary transaction involved in banking,” said BRPL CEO Gopal Saxena. BYPL CEO Ramesh Narayanan said: “This early preparations and buffer will ensure that the company is not caught unawares.”
