Thanjavur Railway junction has two entrances- one on the Gandhiji Road and other one at Mary’s Corner side. By linking both points with underground passage and extending the same to all platforms, like in Tiruchi Railway Junction, will mitigate the hardship of the commuters to an extent. N. Natarajan, Thanjavur Inconvenient timingsLoad Shedding at 6 a.m. in and around Kumbakonam is very inconvenient. I request the TNEB authorities to implement area wise load shedding from 7 a.m. onwards. Murthi Vaidyanathan,
Kumbakonam Consumers’ grievancePrior to April 2002, the domestic power supply of the rural consumers of about 36 villages around Kumbakonam was under the control of the Rural Electric Supply Cooperative Society Limited. While applying for power connection, the applicants have to enrol themselves as member of the Society by paying a fee of Rs.50. Consequent on the dissolution of the Society, this task was taken over by the TNEB. The membership fee paid by the consumers to the erstwhile Society was neither refunded nor adjusted even after a lapse of eight years. Similarly the annual interest on caution deposit does not seem to have been adjusted to the consumption bills for a long time. We get evasive reply from the TNEB officials whenever we contact them. The local consumer associations should take up such matters of public interest promptly. K. Rangarajan, Baburajapuram. Bridge in poor stateAs the bridge at Anaikkarai has fallen into disrepair for some months now, no heavy vehicles are allowed to pass through it. Hence buses are directed through circuitous route, which is a wastage of time, money and fuel. It is a pity that the authorities concerned seem to be so apathetic towards the repair work. Vengarai S. Raman,
Thanjavur Safety measureThough belated, it is a good news to the travelling public that the government bus drivers are banned from using mobile phones while driving. But the said order should be made equally applicable to the drivers of private buses, lorries, vans, autos etc. R. Jambunathan,
Tiruthuraipoondi Blaring songs in busesThe blaring noise of the songs played in moving buses should be stopped at once. This caused lot of disturbance for the senior citizens and sick. On many occasions, the drivers switch on the DVDs and change the CDs when the vehicles are on the move. Kumaravelu,
Kumbakonam Need a passport office in TiruvarurA large number of people of Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts are employed in Gulf countries, Malaysia and Singapore. Now they have to go to Tiruchi Passport office for getting new passports / renew the old passports and for other procedures. The Government recently opened new passport offices in Coimbatore and Madurai. It should come forward to open a passport office in Tiruvarur too. V. Dharmadoss,
Tiruvarur Service chargesWith reference to the letter “Collection charges for milk delivery" (The Hindu dated 5-01-2010), I wish to state that Aavin milk is a service promotive organization which renders its hygienic milk and by products by appointing various unemployed youths. The liquidation of milk packets is done usually by part time workers mainly students who strive to meet their education and family expenses. Service charges is collected to do this valuable services.G. Isaac, Thanjavur ‘Tur dal’ supply The sales persons at the ration shops in Thanjavur town have proclaimed a system that ‘tur dal’ will be supplied to ration card holders in alternate months. To amplify this, only those who got ‘tur dal’ in October can get it in December. Those who got it in November, has to wait for January. Also availability of raw rice on monthly basis has become a night-mare. Will the authorities concerned clarify the correct position and if necessary, issue suitable instructions to all the ration shops and also issue appropriate press notes for the guidance of the consumers. K. Balasubramanian, Thanjavur Cumbersome processWhenever a pensioner dies, the widow has to furnish certain declaration duly signed by one gazetted officer, with two witnesses and also approved by Notary Public, for transferring the saving bank accounts with the last month’s pension of the deceased pensioner, to the widow concerned. In our society, widows are not expected to come out of their homes for a while, but they are driven from pillar to post for this cumbersome process of State Bank of India. The State Bank can safely call the authorization letters of AG / Director of LF audit, Chennai, for the withdrawal and disbursement of family pension, to the concerned widows, in these cases and automatically transfer the SB accounts to the concerned.
S. Moorthy, Karur Order neglectedThe Collector of Thanjavur has issued an order not cremate bodies at the burial ground opposite to the newly opened Girls High School, as the smoke spreads over the school building, but cremation in the ground continues. Orders when issued should be carried out strictly otherwise it becomes null and void. K. Santhanam,
Kumbakonam Roads in bad stateMost roads in Kumbakonam town and suburbs are in a bad shape after the recent rain. Motorists are finding it difficult to ride on the bumpy stretches. I fervently appeal to the concerned authorities to repair these roads immediately. M.Parthasarathi,
Thippirajapuram Operate more trainsMany professionals travel to Banglore from delta districts. There is no other train except Mayiladuturai – Mysore express to Bangalore from here. Getting reserved tickets in Mysore express is a very difficult job. I request railway authorities to operate more trains from Kumbakonam to Bangalore. S. Krishnan, Thippirajapuram
