VISAKHAPATNAM: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has put on hold its plan to shift to alternate day water supply after Sankranti until a contingency plan is prepared. Municipal Commissioner V.N. Vishnu told reporters that officials had been asked to prepare a contingency plan detailing the requirement from January to May, availability, deficit and what steps should be taken to tide over the situation. The corporation could save Rs.2 crores if it avoided pumping of water from Kateru near Rajahmundry from the Godavari. But the levels in the Godavari are not good. By the month-end a clear picture would emerge, Mr. Vishnu said. The situation would also be discussed with officials in Hyderabad.
