Water pipeline bursts

VIJAYAWADA: Water supply was hit in the One Town area due to the burst of a drinking water main near Durga ghat on Sunday. The officials could repair the line by Monday evening and water supply was restored.

A joint on the mainline from the 11-MGD plant broke apparently due to heavy traffic passing through the road. The VMC officials felt that the vibration caused by the heavy vehicles would have damaged the pipeline. Traffic came to a grinding halt as the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) took up the repair works. The city police diverted the traffic coming from Hyderabad and other places on National Highway (NH)-9 towards Kummaripalem centre and tunnel road to Gunadala and Bandar road.
