HYDERABAD: Backward Classes Welfare Minister M. Mukesh has denounced Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K. Chandrasekhar Rao and politicians in his family for allegedly holding out threats to individuals in the name of Telangana agitation.

At a press conference here on Tuesday, he announced his decision to undertake a massive “peace rally” from Charminar to Parade Grounds soon to reassure settlers and others in Greater Hyderabad about their safety and counter the sense of insecurity created by Mr. Rao and his kin.

All political parties except TRS would be involved in the rally which would be the biggest of its kind. “We will show our might.”

The Minister asked settlers to ignore these threats as 28 elected representatives of Greater Hyderabad, including 24 MLAs and four MPs, were solidly behind them.

The Minister said it appeared as though each member of Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao’s family had selected a particular sector for issuing threats -- one was targeting the film industry, the other corporate colleges of Coastal Andhra and yet a third member, the IT firms. He particularly referred to the “threats” held out by Kavitha, daughter of Mr. Rao and chief of Telangana Jagruti, who asked agitators not to allow screening of Junior NTR’s new movie, Adurs, in Telangana.

“Their excesses will not be tolerated any more.”

He said such threats were completely contrary to the stand taken by the TRS leadership that those setting up industries in Telangana, especially Hyderabad, would be accorded a red-carpet welcome.

“If industries are closed, who will give jobs and food to the lakhs of Telangana people who are dependant on them? Forty per cent of people in Greater Hyderabad belonged to non-Telangana districts and another 20 per cent to northern parts of the country. Do the agitators want all of them to go?”, he questioned.

Appeal to Jana

He appealed to Joint Action Committee leaders K. Jana Reddy and R. Damodar Reddy to advise the TRS chief’s family members to stop its threats.

If the situation was like this even before Telangana was formed, one could imagine what would happen if it was formed.

He, however, said he was not opposed to formation of Telangana.
